Another rare raspberry relative out of the Pacific Northwest. The Salmonberry, Rubus spectabilis, is known by foragers, outdoorsmen, and Indigenous communities alike for it’s beautiful flowers and delicious berries. The salmonberry’s name is said to come from a few possibilities: the berries are salmon-colored, the berries ripen during salmon runs, and the berry has been used in traditional salmon dishes. The plant is just like many other brambles: very prickly and spreads aggressively via underground runners.
